Rethinking and reviving travel and tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic

Europe’s travel and tourism sectors are among the biggest economic casualties of the COVID-19 pandemic, facing plummeting revenues. With borders restricted, planes grounded, hotels and leisure attractions closed, the industry has suffered an unprecedented shock. The consequences are likely to be felt for months, if not years ahead.

But now, as lockdown restrictions slowly ease, how can the sectors start getting back on their feet? What needs to change, to survive in the world of ‘new normal?’ How can consumer confidence be restored? And what role for the European Union?

We’ll be discussing the challenges ahead in a special Euronews-hosted virtual debate, ‘Rethinking and Reviving Travel and Tourism,’ on Thursday 4 June at 15:00 CET.

Hosted by Euronews World Affairs reporter Damon Embling, our guests will be Haris Theoharis, Greek Minister of Tourism; Matthew Baldwin, Deputy Director-General, Mobility & Transport Directorate-General (DG MOVE), European Commission; and Eduardo Santander, Executive Director, European Travel Commission.

We’ll also be putting some of your questions to our panel.
